Benefits of archiving...

SAP archiving exists since early version of SAP without being publicised. SAP now often recommends considering archiving in their early watch report.

There are multiple benefits to SAP Archiving:

Database

• Reduce the database size
• Customer have multiple copy of their PRD, so a reduce DB will results in reduce DB in all copies
• Faster backup, recovery & DB maintenance 
• Reduce time required for DB or SAP upgrade
• Reduce time required for OS/DB migration project

Performance

• Faster response time
• Faster access to transactional data
• Faster search time
• Faster reports execution

Business process

• Highlight business processes incorrectly configured
• Make sure document/process are completed/closed
• Enable aggregation of data that you don’t  need
• Disable some features that create unnecessary data

Total Cost of Ownership

• Lower the total cost of ownership
• May delay storage acquisition
