What is SAP archiving?

Archiving is the process of moving the less frequently used data, or the end of life records, out of the main SAP database into a CMS - Content Management System.  

The most common CMS in the SAP world are:

• Open Text - ECM Suite for SAP (formerly IXOS)
• EMC - Content Management and Archiving for SAP
• IBM - Content Collector for SAP (formerly CommonStore)

After archiving, with or without third party retrieval tools, an access method tool can be maintained to retrieve archived records.

The best access method (archive read tools) are:

• PBS Archive Add-on for SAP
